Just The Facts Ma’am.

Lake Winnebago is home to the world’s largest population of lake sturgeon and is the only place in the United States that allows sturgeon spearing.

The elusive, prehistoric sturgeon has an average lifespan of 50 – 60 years? No kiddin’ – they’re like the boomers of the sea.

137,708 acres with 88 miles of shoreline. 15.5-foot average depth, 21-foot maximum depth. Approximately 30 miles long by 10 miles wide.

Fish species: black crappie, bluegill, burbot, channel catfish, flathead catfish, freshwater drum, lake sturgeon, largemouth bass, muskie, northern pike, saugeye, smallmouth bass, walleye, white bass.

Ice fishing is very popular, and it’s not uncommon to view 10,000 cars parked on the lake during the frigid months.

The annual spearing hunt for the bottom-dwelling, prehistoric sturgeon fish begins in February.
