The Mauthe Lake Recreation Area wraps around the quiet kettle lake. The year-round campground contains 135 reservable sites. During the warm weather, swimmers enjoy a beautiful beach and picnickers can enjoy lunch under shady trees. Anglers can try their luck from shore at the accessible fishing pier and spillway dam, or take a boat onto the waters. With no motorized boats and access to the Milwaukee River East Branch, Mauthe Lake is perfect for paddlers. During spring migrations, birders flock to the area in hopes of finding a new life-list bird. The Lake-to-Lake Bike Trail starts at Mauthe Lake and traverses 6.6 miles to the Long Lake Recreation Area.
Pet-friendly picnic areas are available and dogs are allowed on most trails as long as they are on a leash. Dogs may access the water via the boat launches only when boats are not loading or unloading and must remain on a leash at all times. Dogs are not allowed on the swimming beaches.
