49th Annual Cathedral Concert
November 16 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Free
The Fond du Lac Symphonic Band will present its 49th annual Cathedral Concert at the Cathedral Church of Saint Paul the Apostle on Sunday, Nov. 16. Concerts have been held at this location every November since 1976. The concert, under the direction of Music Director Dr. Evan Chancellor, will begin at 3:00 p.m.
This years program opens with Jay Bocooks arrangement of the Finale from Brahms Symphony No. 1. The spiritual Amazing Grace, arranged by Frank Ticheli, reflects the powerful simplicity of the words and melody of the original composition. The program also includes O Magnum Mysterium, a stunning adaptation for symphonic winds by H. Robert Reynolds and Minor Alterations 2: Carols from the Dark Side by David Lovrien in the first half.
After intermission, Mozarts Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, arranged by A. Meyns, is featured. The congregation is invited to sing along with Gustav Holsts hymn In the Bleak Midwinter before an arrangement by Robert W. Smith of this hymn is performed. The final selection is December Dance by Andrew Boysen Jr. The band featured his Snowflakes Dancing in last years Cathedral Concert. In keeping with long-standing tradition, the concert will close with the band singing John Rutters The Lord Bless You and Keep You, with an accompaniment for small wind ensemble by local music educator and composer, Dr. David Thompson.
There is no admission charge for the concert. A free-will offering will be received.
