Horicon Marsh Wildlife Refuge Egret Hiking Trail

Check out this 0.6-mile loop trail near Waupun, Wisconsin. This special floating boardwalk trail will take you into the heart of the winged action and is perfect for any nature lover. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars! Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 11 min to complete on surfaces of asphalt, boardwalk, and crushed gravel. The Egret Trail can be a spectacular place for a summer stroll, but to see the largest flocks of birds, visit during the spring or fall migration. Open year round for walking, but not open to biking. Parking access from the midway parking lot of the refuge auto tour off Hwy 49 is limited during the winter. This trail has smooth, level surfaces with no slope more than 5% grade. The boardwalk leads out into marsh habitat and loops back through an oak forest to the parking area. It is an excellent site for viewing woodland wildflowers in May. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
