SUMMARY:Adventure Cave Tour
DESCRIPTION:Are you looking for a fun and physical interpretive tour of a wild cave? Our Adventure Caving includes Carolyn’s Caverns and Mother’s Cave\, with lots of crawling and exploring. Learn how caves are formed\, some geological history of this area\, and about animals that use the caves. Challenge yourself to try all the (sometimes small) tunnels and ‘The Squeeze’!\n \nFor the Adventure Caving Tour\, participants will first tour the 4 caves of Carolyn’s Caverns but will be expected to use crawl tunnels to go between each. We will then enter Mother’s Cave\, which is all crawling\, sometimes on your belly and sometimes on your hands and knees. Tunnels can be tight and muddy\, and this tour is quite physical\, but loads of fun!\n \nParticipants need to bring a flashlight and must wear closed-toe footwear (no sandals or flip-flops). To be comfortable\, a sweatshirt and long pants are recommended\, as the cave is around 55 degrees. This also provides protection from rocks. The tour lasts for 2-3 hours depending on the group size\, maximum 30 people. The minimum age is 10 years old\, and participants must be accompanied by an adult. Flashlights required.\n \n*Note that the nature center is still closed for our building remodel. Please meet at the pavilion located behind the nature center. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a family-oriented educational (not scary) event! Register for a specific time slot as spaces are limited! Tours leave every half hour\, taking 1-1.5 hours to adventure through lantern-lit woods down to candlelit caves. Along the way\, you may encounter some peculiar characters with unusual stories to tell… This event is a fundraiser for the nature center\, made possible by the Friends of Ledge View Nature Center\, a 501©3 nonprofit\, and the Calumet County Parks Department. Please be sure to dress for the weather\, as this is an outdoor event that utilizes a section of the caves. Minimum age: 5 years old with a parent. No strollers or backpack carriers\, please. Wear old clothes and closed-toed shoes; you may get dirty! Caves are accessed by stairs and ladders and are not handicap accessible. Visitors will not be required to enter the caves for the final segment of the tour. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled tour and follow signs for check-in. Tours will depart promptly at the scheduled tour time. Tickets are nonrefundable\, and the event will take place rain or shine. \n*Please note the nature center will still be closed during this event.
