DESCRIPTION:Take a piece of the Gottfried home with you! \nThe Gottfried Prairie is a hidden gem: a successful 50-acre prairie restoration adjacent to the UWO-Fond du Lac campus. Most of the species originated from the last remaining prairie remnants around Fond du Lac County. This workshop is for landowners who wish to collect prairie wildflower and grass seed for planting on their own property. \nThis is a free event sponsored by the Friends of the Gottfried Prairie & Arboretum and the Wild Ones Fox Valley Area Chapter. \nThe first part of the session involves collecting seed in bags. Following seed collection the seed will be sorted and distributed amongst the participants. Bags will be supplied. Participants should bring a small snips or pruner and sharpie marker if they have one. This made the 27-room Greek Revival hotel a popular resting point for weary travelers. Three generations of the Wade family resided on the Wade House property\, with the stagecoach inn operating until around 1872. The Kohler family and the Kohler Foundation purchased Wade House in 1950 and began a top-to-bottom restoration. The site became property of the Wisconsin Historical Society and opened to the public in 1953. Here\, visitors can journey back to the horse-powered world that existed before planes\, cars\, and trains. The site features the stagecoach hotel built and owned by Sylvanus and Betsey Wade\, early settlers of Greenbush\, as well as a blacksmith shop\, sawmill\, and the Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum\, which houses Wisconsin’s largest collection of carriages and wagons. This is a unique wild cave system where crawling and exploring are optional and encouraged\, but not required. Learn how caves are formed\, some of the geological history of this area\, and about animals that use the caves. This is a fun\, family-friendly tour; minimum age is 5. We will use stairs and ladders to enter the caves. Flashlights required.\n \nThese are ‘wild’ caves\, and we do not have paved walkways or electricity. Closed-toed shoes\, long pants\, and long sleeves are a must! A sweatshirt\, boots\, a hat\, and gloves are suggested. The caves are frequently muddy in areas. Please bring a flashlight other than your phone. This is a walking tour with optional crawling opportunities.
