Richard Norenberg was born in Fond du Lac where he was encouraged at a young age to pursue the arts. Upon completing high school, he attended UW- Fond du Lac focusing on being an art major. From UW-FDL, he transferred to UW-Oshkosh with an undeclared major. Shortly after moving to Oshkosh, he moved to London, England to further his studies at Ealing Art College. It was during this time he developed an appreciation for the immense skills and dedication required to become a starving artist. Involved in the arts throughout his life, it wasn’t until 2009 he began painting; something he believed would eventually happen “in the process of living his life.” Since then, he has been a regular on the Oshkosh Gallery Walk and has also shown his work in several Wisconsin cities as well as in California, London, and New Mexico.

In Fond du Lac, he has shown at River Walk Gallery, Share Art Gallery, and Trista Holz studios. His works are owned by art collectors and many others that just “love art.” Rich is largely responsible for the City of Oshkosh accepting public murals and has worked on or led the creation of five separate murals. The most prominent is “Spirit of Oshkosh” which hangs in downtown Oshkosh near the Grand Opera House. Underlying his dedication to the creation of community art is the belief that the process and outcomes of communal pieces imbed a cooperative spirit in the collective unconscious.
