Symphonic Band 40th Annual Pops Concert

Price: Free Admission!

The Fond du Lac Symphonic Band will present its 40th annual Spring Pops Concert on Sunday, April 7. Under the direction of Music Director Dale Shipe and Associate Conductor Jill Wagner, the event is slated for 3:00 p.m. at the Fond du Lac High School Performing Arts Center, 801 Campus Drive.

Headlining the program will be guest vocalist Steve March-Tormé, son of the legendary "Velvet Fog" Mel Tormé, singing a Beatles medley, Blues in the Night, and the music of Stevie Wonder and George Gershwin. March-Tormé's extraordinary voice has electrified audiences in venues from the Detroit Jazz Festival to the McCallum Performing Arts Center in Palm Desert, CA, to the Smith Center in Las Vegas, and worldwide from London to Japan, Australia to Brazil and Canada. A long-time resident of California, in 2005 he and his family moved to his wife's home state of Wisconsin. Currently a resident of Appleton, Steve continues to pursue his career both nationally and in Wisconsin. In addition to his performing and recording career, Steve hosts his own radio show on the Music of Your Life network, and he is the weekday afternoon host on 91.1 FM The Avenue in Green Bay.

Selections by the Symphonic Band include Mother Earth (A Fanfare) by David Maslanka, Excerpts from the musical score to "Far and Away" by John Williams, and the circus march Colossus of Columbia by Alexander. The Band will also perform The Seal Lullaby, a dreamlike work by Eric Whitacre that was inspired by the classic Rudyard Kipling poem "White Seal." Concluding the afternoon's musical fare will be Puszta, a suite of four original gypsy dances by Belgian composer Jan Van der Roost.

There is no admission charge for the concert; a free-will offering will be received. Special thanks to major sponsors Steve and Lynne Uecker, Dick and Mary Wehner, and Steve Peterson and Lisa Washa, who have funded the soloist fees. Sponsors' seating is available at $15 for main floor seating and $100 for a mezzanine box with seating for four. Sponsors receive a program listing and complimentary refreshments. Sponsors' ticket requests may be mailed to "Pops Sponsors, P O Box 1483, FdL WI 54936" or tickets purchased online through PayPal at
