Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Fond du Lac will hold it's annual Greek Fest on Sunday, May 19 from 11 am to 5 pm at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds in the Expo Building. Come celebrate Greek culture with us! Admission is free.
Start out your adventure by sampling the Greek cuisine offered including gyros, souvlaki, a chicken and rice dinner, Pastitsio (Greek lasagna), and flaming saganaki (cheese which is doused in brandy and flamed as you watch) a Greek favorite.
If you are not in the mood for Greek, come and have a chili dog prepared by Chili John's of Beaver Dam or try Greek French Fries.
After your meal, satisfy your sweet tooth with koudiabiethes (a butter cookie immersed in powdered sugar), diples, a fried pastry dipped in honey and sprinkled with nuts and honey; koulourakia, a braided Greek cookie; paxemathia, Greek biscotti; loukoumathes, Greek honey puffs which are like a doughnut whole fried to the order and dipped in honey with cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top; and don't forget the baklava. Baklava is the king of Greek pastries with nuts and spices layered between layers of filo dough with a honey syrup over it.
After your meal take a stroll over to the Agora (Greek marketplace) where Greek novelty food items may be purchased.
After checking out the marketplace treat yourself to a performance of The Saint Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church Greek Folk Dancers of Milwaukee. Performances are at 1 and 3 pm. Greek music will be played all day for your listening and dancing pleasure.
There will be games for the children.
Come be a part of this special event. It is the hope of the church that another hundred years of Greek Fest can be celebrated.
