(Fond du Lac Reads! 2020 selection written for middle-graders; often enjoyed by adults as much!)

When Candice finds a letter in an old attic in Lambert, South Carolina, she isn't sure she should read it. It's addressed to her grandmother, who left the town in shame. The letter describes a young woman, an injustice that happened decades ago, a mystery enfolding its writer, and the fortune that awaits the person who solves the puzzle. Our reviewer Ish Harris, III, is a United States Marine Corp Veteran. He volunteers with and on the Board of United Way Fond du Lac and United for Diversity Board. He works with area children and youth as a youth athletics coach.

Per CDC mask guidance: people should wear a mask in public indoor settings, including fully vaccinated individuals, when in areas with substantial and high transmission. This new guidance is to maximize protection from the Delta variant. Masks are recommended for people ages two and older.
