Statewide Limbo Contest

Friday, July 31, 2015 - Monday, August 31, 2015

Spectrum along with the State wide association of roller rinks are hosting a special Month-long event in August. A statewide limbo contest. Skaters will compete at each local roller rink to get below 10” on the limbo pole. The Roller skating Association International (RSA) wants people to know that roller skating is one of the few activities that provides a complete aerobic workout for over 640 of the body’s muscles – especially the heart. Families, kids, and teens are encouraged to go to The Spectrum where they can achieve an active lifestyle. “Roller skating has been seeing a major upswing in the last several years. From music videos to sitcoms featuring roller skating, you are now more likely than ever to see popular pop icons like Justin Beiber or Beyonce spotted at your local skating rink. Roller skating is seeing an upswing of adults returning to this beloved activity, for both fun and fitness” said Christine Cohen, from the Spectrum.. “These adults now bring their children to enjoy one of their favorite activities together as a family. With the rise in popularity of roller derby, speed skating and artistic figure roller skating, roller skating centers are opening throughout the world at an amazing pace to keep this timeless popular activity alive.” Roller skating is a unique way to achieve health benefits while having fun. The average person can burn 350 calories by skating at a rate of six miles per hour. This number increases to 600 calories if that same person averages 10 miles per hour. Roller skating centers have partnered with The President’s Challenge Program and Let’s Move with the mission of keeping kids active and healthy in a safe environment. Roller skating is also recommended by the American Heart Association as an aerobic fitness sport. The President's Challenge is a program that encourages all Americans to make being active an important part of their everyday lives. No matter what your activity and fitness level, The President's Challenge Program can help motivate you to improve. For more information, please visit www.presidentschallenge.org or call 1-800-258-8146.
